Wild Goan Plans for October 2002
Ornithology workshop at Bondla Wildlife Sactuary
A two-day, one night Ornithology Workshop will be held at Bondla Wildlife Sanctuary in mid-October. The workshop will be organised by Bombay Natural History Society in collaboration with the Goa Forest Department.
The workshop is limited to 20 “ very interested” participants. It is compulsory to attend all lectures and field trips. Prior birding experience is a must. Participants should also be willing to volunteer for fieldwork in ornithology.
The resource person is Mr Asad Rahmani, Director BNHS, who is renowned for his pioneering work on the Great Indian Bustard and has conducted similar workshops all over India. We do hope that Wild Goans will make the best of this rare learning opportunity.
Topics to be covered in the workshop:
a) Indian Bird Conservation Network (one lecture)
b) Important Bird Areas Programme in India (one lecture)
c) Why monitor common birds? (one lecture)
d) Bird census technique (five-six lectures)
e) How to write scientific papers? (one lecture)
f) How to write project proposals (one lecture)
These lectures are from 15 minutes to 60 minutes, with some field exercises in between. First day evening and second day morning is for bird census in the field.
While we hope to get accommodation sponsored by the Forest department (we will confirm this later), participants will have to bear the cost of their meals, etc. The camp is being co-ordinated by Southern Birdwing
Looking forward to hearing from YOU at the earliest.
